- 1 sheet of puff pastry store-bought or homemade
- 1 cup fresh spinach chopped
- 1/2 cup feta cheese crumbled
- 1/4 cup cream cheese softened
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg for egg wash
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
Add the spinach to the skillet and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
In a bowl, combine the cooked spinach, feta cheese, cream cheese, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spread the spinach and feta mixture evenly over one half of the pastry.
Fold the other half of the puff pastry over the filling to create a rectangle. Press down the edges to seal.
Cut the pastry into 1-inch strips and twist each strip into a spiral shape.
Place the twisted pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Beat the egg and brush it over the twists for a golden finish.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastries are golden and puffed up.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes to restore crispiness.
- Frozen twists can be stored for up to 2 months. Bake from frozen for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- Frozen spinach can be used if fresh spinach isn’t available, just be sure to thaw and drain it well.
- The recipe can be made ahead by preparing the twists and refrigerating them before baking.
- Cheese alternatives like parmesan, ricotta, or mozzarella can be used instead of feta.
- For a different texture, phyllo dough or pie crust can be used instead of puff pastry.
