Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
In a large bowl, whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until combined. Add eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Fold in chopped apples.
Pour batter into prepared pan, spreading evenly. Bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
