- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 2 oz premium silver tequila e.g., Espolòn, Patron, or Milagro
- 2 oz 100% pomegranate juice unsweetened
- ¾ oz triple sec Cointreau preferred
- ¾ oz simple syrup adjust to taste
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar for rim
- 1½ tsp lime zest from 1 large lime, for rim
- 1 lime wedge for rimming
- 1 lime wheel for garnish
- Ice
Make the Lime Sugar Rim
In a small bowl, I rub 3 tbsp sugar with 1½ tsp lime zest until fragrant. I spread it on a plate, run a lime wedge around a rocks glass rim, and dip the glass into the lime sugar to coat evenly for a zesty ruby margarita.
Mix the Cocktail
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, I add 1 oz lime juice, 2 oz tequila, 2 oz pomegranate juice, ¾ oz Cointreau, and ¾ oz simple syrup. I shake vigorously for 30 seconds, then strain into the prepared glass for a smooth festive pom drink.
- For a frozen version, blend ingredients with 1 cup of ice instead of shaking.
- Use mezcal instead of tequila for a smoky twist.
- Make a pitcher by multiplying ingredients by 6 and mixing in a large jug.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup to your taste.v
