Ingredients

  • 1 cup 225g unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup 60g powdered sugar (plus 1 cup/120g for rolling)
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • cups 270g all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup 130g mini chocolate chips
  • 1 –2 drops green food coloring optional

Instructions

Prep the Oven and Baking Sheet

  • I preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and non-stick chocolate mint cookies.

Cream Butter and Sugar

  • In a large bowl, I beat 1 cup softened butter and ½ cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy, adding air for tender minty snowball treats.

Add Flavor and Color

  • I mix in 1 tsp peppermint extract, ½ tsp vanilla extract, and 1–2 drops green food coloring (if using) for a vibrant, minty look in these festive mint cookies.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients

  • I gradually add 2¼ cups flour and ¼ tsp salt, mixing until a thick dough forms that holds together when pressed, perfect for these chocolate mint cookies.

Fold in Chocolate Chips

  • I gently fold in ¾ cup mini chocolate chips for even chocolate specks throughout these minty snowball treats.

Shape and Bake

  • I scoop tablespoon-sized dough portions, roll into balls, and place 1 inch apart on the baking sheet. I bake for 10–12 minutes until bottoms are lightly golden for perfect festive mint cookies.

Dust with Powdered Sugar

  • I let the cookies cool for 5 minutes, then roll in 1 cup powdered sugar while warm. Once fully cooled, I roll again for a snowy coating on these Mint Chocolate Chip Snowball Cookies.

Notes

  • These cookies freeze well and are perfect for holiday gifting.
  • If you prefer a stronger mint flavor, add an extra 1/4 teaspoon of peppermint extract.
