Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon optional
  • Granulated sugar for rolling (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Optionally, chill dough for 30-60 minutes if too soft to handle.
  • Roll tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar if desired.
  • Place dough balls on prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Centers may appear soft but will firm as they cool.
  • Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a sparkly finish, roll dough balls in granulated sugar before baking.
  • Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
