Baked Brie with Caramelized Onions is a warm, indulgent appetizer that’s perfect for any gathering. This gooey cheese appetizer, with its creamy brie and sweet onions, shines at autumn parties.
In a 12-inch skillet, I melt 2 tbsp butter over medium-high heat. I add 2 sliced onions, 3 sliced garlic cloves, and ¾ tsp salt, sautéing for 3–4 minutes until onions turn opaque. I reduce heat to medium-low, stir in 2 tbsp brown sugar, and cook for 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until lightly golden for sweet savory onion brie dishes.
Deglaze and Finish Onions
I pour in 1 cup white wine to deglaze, scraping up bits, and add 2 tbsp thyme. I cook on medium-low for 15–20 minutes, stirring every 3–5 minutes, until onions are deeply caramelized. I cool them for 5–10 minutes for rich gooey cheese appetizers.
Prepare and Bake Brie
I preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 6-inch baking dish. I remove the top rind from a 19 oz brie wheel, place it cut-side up in the dish, and top with caramelized onions. I bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes until melty, then cool for 5–10 minutes for perfect warm cheese delights.
Serve
I sprinkle extra thyme and serve with toasted baguette slices for scooping gooey cheese appetizers.
